> California Firearm Printing Prevention Act, establishes a framework to regulate the sale of three-dimensional (3D) printers in the state by requiring them to include built-in "firearm blocking technology"
This is so obnoxiously impossible.

I hope the courts strike this down. Shows exactly how thorough our leadership is being these days (this is quite dumb, and impossible).
Take this a one natural step further.
This would be a very bad precedent and eliminate the viability of legitimate 3d printing industries which today would include almost all manufacturing (if broadly adopted both in and outside the state).
For example, CNC, EDM, and other machining that utilizes such positioning technology will now have to comply. There is also no intent inherent in a shape. A shaped spring or other component for motion transfer can just as easily be used in a gun as it can be used in millions of other devices including engines.

Exactly. You can slice and dice a model and just merge it in the slicer and if there'sfirmwarebloks, with how good AI is at reverse engineering it wouldn't be an insurmountable challenge to roll your own firmware without the restrictions.

So, what, unlicensed posession of electric motors will be a felony?

This will stop exactly zero criminals who were going to use a 3D printer to print gun parts.

So should everyone buy 3D printers before the government lockdown comes into effect?
This is so obnoxiously impossible.
